The Non-Profit Dilemma

            The vast majority of work we do is the work by which we “earn our living” and pay our bills.

            If that work doesn’t build up love in our hearts and shalom in the world we are lost.  We can never make up for that lost time and effort with evenings, weekends, vacation time and donations.

Finding Value

            We find three principles for our work from the creation story in Genesis.  They are:

1. Participate in life increasing and filling the earth.                             
2. Work in a way that makes ourselves and those we work with something we were not, something better; tending and caring for our selves, our souls, allowing God to continue creating in us and through us in the world.
3. Work in a way that provides physical sustenance for ourselves and that gives opportunity for others to do the same.

            Those who determine the aims and structure of the organizations in which we work can adopt these aims.
