| The Purpose of Life |
|
One way to state the purpose of life: God’s continuing creation in us develops hearts of love. The theological term for “God’s continuing creation” is grace. The first work of grace that we should seek is forgiveness. The world is filled with tools that God uses for continued creation. Our work is to put these tools in our lives. The theological term for these tools is Means of Grace. Three of the most powerful, useful means of grace are prayer, the Bible and the Church. The Holy Spirit applies the means of grace in our hearts and through our lives in the world. The kingdom of God is where God’s will is done. When we believe God wants us to do something, in our hearts we say “Yes” or “No”. The Church is God’s chosen instrument to build up the kingdom in our hearts and in the world. We each have spiritual gifts meant to be used in and through the Church to build up God’s kingdom in our hearts and in the world. |
